“Always one of the best values in Argentina and a flagship of the variety and winery, the 2017 Colonia Las Liebres Bonarda Clásica is an easy-to-drink, juicy wine from parral vines in Luján de Cuyo. It fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and aged in concrete vats to allow the grape to keep its full personality without any contact with oak. It’s characterful and has the varietal personality, a little rustic, with juicy fruit and a chewy texture, really good with food, a lightish wine of thirst. This wine clearly overdelivers for the price.”

Robert Parker Argentina Report 2018: 90 pts Colonia Las Liebres Espumante 2015

“The 2015 Colonia Las Liebres Espumante Brut Rosé is the first sparkling wine I’ve tasted from Altos Las Hormigas. Produced with the traditional method of second fermentation in bottle, with a base of Bonarda from El Peral in Valle de Uco, it was kept in bottle with the lees for some 12 months, as they want to keep some fruit and freshness. It’s dry, and they did not add any sugar at disgorgement. They started with some trials of sparkling wines in 2013, and in 2015 they changed the source of the grapes. And now they are finally happy with it, as it has persistence and the chalky texture and is nicely balanced, with a dry, tasty finish. It feels serious, like Argentine sparkling wines are finally finding their way. As with all wines, the vineyard is everything…”

Reproducimos las notas de Luis Gutiérrez en su idioma original para respetar sus comentarios exactos sobre éste vino: “I had not crossed paths with this wine in a while, so I was looking forward to tasting the 2015 Bonarda Colonia Las Liebres, a sure value and very representative of the grape. It’s produced from their own estate vineyards. They aim for a fresher expression of the variety here, with fine-grained tannins, blending grapes from different zones in the province; the grapes are fermented in stainless steel and kept in cement vats, never in contact with oak. 2015 was very warm towards the end of the cycle, and the harvest was 15 days earlier than anticipated. The nose is clean and the palate is soft, a light Bonarda without any oak, a juicy, fresh and easy to drink expression of the variety. It was harvested early and not extracted. The price is almost unbelievable; one to buy by the case.”
